Lego Movie Poster: Little Miss Sunshine

It was fun watching the movie, as well as building the yellow van and five characters. I mean, six. I started from little Miss Sunshine, then uncle, brother and mother, each one more difficult as I wanted to be more creative and in the same time was running out of useful pieces. Just when I finished mother, I looked at the original poster, and hey, there's the father sitting at driver seat.

Lego Movie Poster for...

It's an upcoming Richard Linklater movie.

His works's always special, be it a heavily conversed situation, or a real-time reunion, or this one-----shoot over 12 years over the growth of a boy. Looking forward to seeing the movie so much, that I made a lego poster for the movie, as a tribute.

Upcoming Lego short "____ in London"

I am posting this at Amsterdan Airport on the way to London. There, "Michael" and "Lola" will have a new adventure. Who is the shadow behind them? What is in his hand? Everything will be revealed by the end of July.

If you'd like to know more about "Michael" and "Lola", please click here: http://lolalego.blogspot.nl/2014/02/lego-in-venice.html and see their adventure in Venice.

Sewing Machine

My boyfriend rent this supposedly "antique" sewing machine that is about 20cm big as a prop for his photoshoot. The deal was he was going to rent it right? He paid 2000RMB for it, and when return, he would get 1000RMB back. It's an expensive rent you would say. But no, the shop owner denied every bit about the renting and refused to take the sewing machine back. So it has been sitting on our shelf ever since. I always like that photo he did. This renting story kind of worth it as well. Now I've made a Lego replica out of. What a good machine!

Favourite childhood icecream

(From left to right) Red bean ice pop, salty ice pop, doll face ice cream

Something that is part of the after-80's memory.

Lego Movie Poster: Scarface

After the "Kill Bill" Lego poster recreation, I see the possibility of involving people in the lego movie poster building. Before I thought that wasn't possible because the people or face appearing on the poster tends to be significant, and if done wrong will lead to non-recognition. But with proper graphic and visual cues, it turns out totally plausible and fun.

Lego Movie Poster: Kill Bill

I remember when first started I always build lego in my own way. But as I get to know more building techniques, they help me to make things easier and the result more lockable.

This week's movie poster is more complicated than before. The building took about three hours in a happy evening. Its photo was take the next morning, as I preferred to use daylight. And this time with a tripod as well to make sure it was straight and sharp.

Lego Movie Poster: the Graduate

I hope when you see this one and the moment you work out which movie it is, there's a smile on your face.

Honest it wasn't too difficult building the two parts, as you can see. But I thought about how to make the two parts work together nicely in photography. At first, I was going to shoot them together. That means either the foreground or the background is out of focus. But later I decide to shoot them separately and put together in Photoshop. It is more faithful to the original poster.

Lego Movie Poster: Thank You for Smoking

The difficult part for me while making all these lego movie posters is not just building the object, but to pick the poster, and think of a way to recreate its visual. This one is a good example.

For photography, I used the same method as in "the Devil wears Prada". You can read more about it here,

Lego Movie Poster: Lolita

With the oscar heat, this seems to be a movie month. So I decide to post another movie poster I built with Lego here. The movie itself is not new, but this work is my favorite one so far. It's simple and deliver the iconic message in a few blocks. The way the photo was taken and edited makes it poster-like as well. Maybe I'll add some graphic design later to perfect it.

It should be easy to guess, so who'd like to give it a try?

Lego Movie Poster: Devil Wears Prada

This is very obvious which movie is it right?

A. Yes
B. No
C. What are you talking about?

For A,
Because it is a lego project, and it's supposed to be fun, I make it in a way that is cute and cartoony, instead of feminine and devil-like. And for Those of you who are curious about the photography, I simply put the finished artwork on the base of a 27 inch apple desktop. It's silver. It has a curve. Therefore, it is a natural studio background. I didn't use any artificial light other than pulling up some curtains.

For B,
Well, I guess you're not a girl. Come back next week if you are still curious and the answer will be in the title.

For C,
Not every blog is for you, such as this one. But feel free to browse other entries here.

Lego Blocks

OK, this doesn't look too interesting. The yellow block is a 1x1 block, and the white one is a 1x1 plate. But it was fun building.

First of all, a scale has to be worked out. How many studs will there on the surface? What is the scale of the actual stud on top, and how to build it round? How many layers of block is there to make it long enough to match the actual ratio? I actually put the text LEGO on top of the stud, but decided it didn't look good with the rest of the surface all studded instead of smooth. It is a good practice I suggest more builders try out.

Lego Movie Poster: Gravity

Hey guys, here's the second movie poster I built with lego. Rules are the same (although so far nobody has guessed the first one yet).

Let's hear some hint this time,
a. This movie has won oscars
b. It's a science fiction
c. Look at the picture above again!

em… should be enough clues to work the answer out.

Lego for the Oscar

2013 proves to be a really good year for film industry. Although a lot of big names went into TV industry, films (more importantly, scripts) that excite people still came in great quantity.

Ellen was funny. Among the awards, the best original screenplay and the best leading female are my two favourites. So here's a Lego oscar statue to add in the celebration.

I thought it would be nice to build the whole statue in yellow, but unfortunately I didn't own enough yellow pieces. So I had to add in other colour pieces and use them creatively. I'm quite happy with the result---the chest are in blue and green, shoulders and arms in red, the rest in yellow and white to give it a layer. The different colours give shapes to different parts.

Lego Movie Poster: American Beauty

Years ago, I got into the habit of combining hobbies together. The picture above is actually the combination of three hobbies-----Lego, movies and photography. Though I'm trying to drive each of them somewhere, the pleasure of seeing them altogether is great.

I'd like to invite you, however you come across this page, to guess which movie poster is this? For the sake of the viewers after you, please just leave a "Yes" if you get it, or a "No" if you don't. Or you can leave anything, except for the answer. Next Monday I'll put the answer in the title.

Lego Cameras

I always have the desire to build cameras with lego. I have made lot efforts-----a yellow toy one with a changeable lens system, and a set of lens to go with it; an unfinished Canon 5D Mark II on LDD and an old style Polaroid one. So far the third contents my heart most. I'm pretty sure there're more to come.

Lego in Venice

This is a short movie I shot during a trip in Europe.

Location: Rome, Florence, Venice, Vienna & Prague.
Character: Mr. Lego (Michael) and Ms. Lego (Lola)
Story: As Mr. Lego goes up from Rome and Ms. Lego goes down from Prague, they "accidentally met" on a bridge in Venice.
